Interventional Oncology: TAE and TACE
In TAE (transarterial embolisation), embolic material (microparticles, glue, PVA) is delivered by catheter into the arteries feeding the tumour to cut off its blood supply or stop bleeding. In TACE (transarterial chemoembolisation), a chemotherapy drug is delivered together with microparticles; it is most often used in unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma.
