Why preparation matters

Following the recommendations given before an examination or procedure helps ensure accurate results and a safe, comfortable process. Fasting requirements

Some examinations and invasive procedures (for example, intravascular contrast administration or interventions requiring sedation) may require arriving on an empty stomach. This is because stomach contents can increase risks related to reflexes during the procedure, and some test results can be affected by food intake. The required fasting period varies depending on the type of procedure — you will receive exact instructions from the medical staff contacting you or when your appointment is confirmed.

Medications you take

Be sure to inform your doctor in advance about any medications you take regularly (especially blood thinners, blood sugar medications, or blood pressure medications). Some medications may need to be temporarily paused or have their dose adjusted before a procedure — this decision can only be made by the physician overseeing your care, so do not stop or change your medication on your own.

Clothing and accompaniment

On the day of the procedure, it is recommended to wear comfortable clothing that is easy to put on and take off. After some invasive procedures (for example, if sedation was used), driving is not recommended, so it may be helpful to come accompanied by someone who can take you home afterward.
