Pulmonary Embolism
Passage of a clot into the pulmonary arteries is accompanied by sudden shortness of breath and chest pain and can be life-threatening. The haemodynamic condition is assessed immediately; in severe cases, the intensive care, cardiology and interventional radiology teams decide together.
- Anticoagulant therapy, oxygen therapy and intensive care support
- Systemic thrombolysis or catheter-directed treatment in selected severe cases
