Reopening Blocked Vessels in Diabetic Foot

Diabetic foot ulcers may develop as a result of peripheral neuropathy or involvement of the leg arteries. In these patients it is important to check for vascular involvement with colour Doppler and angiography: in ischaemic ulcers, healing is usually not possible without restoring blood flow. Percutaneous balloon angioplasty and stenting have a number of advantages over surgical methods.
